New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc

Refreshing and light Sav Blanc’s are one of our go to summer wines. Originated in America and France but perfected by New Zealand. The dry and crisp acidity of this varietal makes it a great drinker by itself but also pairs wonderfully with oysters or a good ole’ shrimp scampi. Want to try cooking with it? Make yourself a white wine sauce or cheese fondue (but seriously make the fondue with this wine as your base, swiss cheese and gruyere… ughhh be right back as I add this to my grocery list)

Depending on the location of your savvy the finish is different. We’re partial to New Zealand because we love the refreshing grapefruit finish, but if you’re looking for that grassier more herbal dry white try a bottle from California or France! The best part about this varietal is that you won’t break bank finding a nice wine, most are under $25 a bottle with the higher ends reaching up to $50 (so you’re not paying the same price tag as you would for a good cab or bordeaux blend but you’re still getting great quality).

Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Crisp and refreshing this Sauv Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand is perfect for sipping and cooking. Filled with flavors of grapefruit, peach, and lemon and a crisp acidity I couldn’t get enough of it.

I used this Sauv Blanc to make rosemary peach chicken in a white wine sauce, and it did not disappoint. The peach flavors of the wine paired nicely with the fresh peaches adding a really nice summery feel to the dish. On top of tasting great it also looks pretty and doesn’t require a ton of prep, perfect for the next time you’re hosting! Between the chicken dish and this Sauv Blanc you’ll be sure to impress your guests.

Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2019

One of the OG Sauv Blanc’s from New Zealand. Cloudy Bay is one of the most well-known producers of Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand. This is a great place to start if you’ve never tried a Sauv Blanc from New Zealand. It’s a wine you drink when you’re looking for something crisp, vibrant, mouthwatering and full of citrus fruit flavor (especially grapefruit).

At $31 the price point is on the higher end compared to other Sauv Blancs from New Zealand, but the value is there. A bottle that is emptied easily is usually a great bottle, and this one went quick! It’s perfect for sipping or pairing with some seafood!

Kim Crawford

This is the giant that came out of New Zealand and there’s good reason for it… this Sav Blanc is one to keep in stock at all times in your house. It’s affordable (only $15!) and consistent year to year, you always know what you’re getting and when it comes to wine I love that. The wine is vibrant and exudes flavors of grapefruit with a nice crisp acidity.

Kim Crawford Sav Blanc is the one you bring poolside on a hot day, to a BBQ, sip on the porch in the heat of the sun or on a nice humid night. It’s so incredibly refreshing you might forget there’s alcohol in it 🙈

Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc 2020

At just $20 a bottle this Sauvignon Blanc should be on constant rotation in your wine fridge. This is another one of those bottles that you’re finishing it before you realize you’ve had more than a glass of it! Classic New Zealand Sauv Blanc with bright citrus notes, lime, grapefruit and passionfruit – YUM!

This is a bottle that I would recommend opening on a hot summer day, when no one is around (so that you don’t have to share it!) 😂 But in all seriousness this is top 5 favorite sauv blancs for me from all the sauvvy’s I’ve tried (and that’s a lot), at at this price point you really can’t go wrong!

The Seeker Sauvignon Blanc 2019

I’ve walked past this bottle in the store so many times. I finally decided to try it and I’ll never walk past it again, without grabbing a bottle! At $11 this is a great bottle to always have on hand. Sauv Blanc is great for sipping or pairing with food, and most people will like it.

This was exactly what you’d hope a Sauv Blanc would be – bright, crisp, and fresh. On the nose this wine was very aromatic with notes of grapefruit and apple. On the palate it’s fresh and crisp with a long juicy and mouthwateringly good finish!
